DRINK DRIVING

It is estimated that drink-driving is responsible for about 40 deaths and 170 serious injuries each year in Scotland, so it will come as no surprise that it remains one of the key target areas for Road Safety Scotland’s campaigning.

Here are some facts

  • Young men are the worst offenders
  • People don’t believe how little alcohol it takes to affects their driving
  • They don’t believe they will be caught
  • Graphic images don’t really deter people from doing it
  • What is most likely to change behaviour is the prospect of losing your licence and being banned from driving

So, if you’re not convinced by the fact that over 1,000 people are killed or injured every year by drink-drivers (including the drivers themselves), then remember, when you’re caught, you will get a minimum one year ban, which could cost you your job, your home and your mates!.

It gets worse, the conviction stays on your criminal record for 20 years or until your 40, whichever is longer. And, if you get a prison sentence as part of the conviction, it stays on your criminal record for 40 years or until your 70! It isn’t worth it so don’t risk it.
