VEHICLE MODIFICATION

Car modifying is a term used to describe doing up a car by adding 'performance parts' and 'styling'.

Anything from big exhausts to large sound systems are used to create an unique look. But it's an expensive business and before you do any modifications you'd better check out that what you're planning is legal.

Is it legal?
What you may not know is that altering or making modifications to your car could make it illegal for you to drive it and put you at risk of a fine and penalty points. Using tinting windows beyond the legal limit or adding a noisy exhaust can be a safety hazard and cause nuisance to other road users.

This is why all car manufacturers and all vehicles must comply with various laws to ensure your safety and that of your passengers. The main law being ‘The Road Traffic Act 1988 and the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986’.

Are you covered?
You must advise your insurance company of your planned modifications. If you don’t, you may find that you are no longer covered by your insurance, and you could end up in all sorts of bother.
